The Press Tribunes in Bordeaux

For three days, Bordeaux welcomed for the 7th edition the press galleries, Thursday 30 november to saturday 2 December, of which Bernard Guetta is the president of the organizing association "The Aquitaine Meetings".

Theme of these three days of the Press Tribunes : "A world in the midst of a revolution" in the context of globalization.

French and foreign journalists, representatives of civil society, intellectuals and political leaders therefore came to testify and debate the state of the world and the role of the press in Bordeaux, in New Aquitaine.

Three days of debate, workshops… one of the highlights of which was, among others, the visit of François Hollande on Friday.

Several questions remained unanswered or which left skeptical…

After very instructive and often poignant stories and anecdotes about the Vietnam War, the former war reporter and essayist, Jean-Claude Guillebaud present at a workshop at the IJBA in Bordeaux, asserted that educating young people today to take a more critical look at the press was not necessarily necessary, under the pretext that these same young people could sufficiently share things, especially thanks to the Internet.

Debate proposed by the Press Tribunes : « Wild information : the triumph of fake news and alternative facts ».

In a debate, that same day in Bordeaux at the Press Tribunes, and whose subject was " Wild information : the triumph of fake news and alternative facts », to the question posed in the audience as to who held the real power : "The media or politicians ? », none of the speakers could or wanted to answer. The only sentence launched a little quickly by the Deputy Managing Director of Canard Enchaîné, Nicolas Brimo, has been : "It’s like asking for politics or economics, which of the two pushes the world ?! " Yes, but it was about journalism, of media and information to citizens ... even if, indeed, capital certainly intervenes in all areas…

Debate proposed by the Press Tribunes : "Walls to stop men ? »

In the debate, "Walls to stop men ? »During these Press Tribunes, all the guests (geographer, demographer-professor and researcher) were unanimous that these walls, ditches… built between certain countries of the world or in anticipation (Mexico, Korea, in, Tunisia… and there are many because in total, we measure 40,000km) were almost useless and cost the building countries a fortune ! The construction of these physical separations brought the speakers (in particular the geographer Stéphane Rosière often moving in his conclusions) to take exception to the fact that no politician really had the will to stop the conflicts generating or resulting from these walls.

At the question (off microphone) to know why these guests, with other personalities of their status, with their knowledge and with their recognition, did they not ally themselves to go to politicians, denounce this inventory and present their studies, findings and other research, the responses were "I haven't thought about it… I don't know if it will be useful… I already have so much to do… I did it once and I hit some… walls ! »

Debate proposed by the Press Tribunes : « The fashion, luxury, brands… where the new clothes of globalization »

And finally, during the discussion on the theme " The fashion, luxury, brands… where the new clothes of globalization »From the Press Tribunes, Unfortunately, the debate did not arise and the two professors present only made a more historical observation than the current one., without really discussing the subject critically.

Another debate, excluding Press Tribunes : the objectivity of journalists and other reporters

Press galleries have the merit of existing, this initiative attracts many interested people and far from wanting to disparage the debates (and their quality) attended by our members, Roaming Reports wanted to look back, critical either, but this is not also one of the roles of journalists, reporters constantly questioning themselves for better information?

Olivier Schramek, president of the superior council of audio-visual, present on the antenna of France Inter this week of December 2017, insisted that "the information, and its sharpest form the investigation, are at the heart of the public service broadcasting mission ", which applies to all work, surveys, papers, articles, search for everything “Well” journalist and / or reporter.

Quality reporting and investigation in "the audiovisual public service have the particular mission of supporting citizens in their task of informing and reflecting on current issues", and "to protect them from pressure from groups, whether political or economic "and allow journalists to" take a raw look, but independent on a certain number of phenomena of society ”.

All this knowing that "these reports can be subject to criticism ..."
