An exceptional exhibition of minerals from the Vosges and around the world is based in eastern France: enthusiasts organize educational visits, workshops, conferences for young and old.
In the XXI... century, borders lose their meaning. Earth is a whole that we can no longer look at in a partial but global way. Beyond the granites of the Vosges region, beyond the rocks of the Vosgien Massif, the Vosges site “Genesis ” wanted to show the public the wonders of mineralogy. Collections have been completed, reorganized and presented to make it one of the richest in France, able to compete with those of national museums. Granite and the Vosges: a center dedicated to this unalterable stone
The Geology Center Genesis is located on the historic site of the Société des Granits Porphyroïdes des Vosges, who settled there at the end of the XIX... century near the platforms of the train station Syndicat-Saint-Amé.
Mondial Granit, France's leading granite trading company, had its premises there and a park, real granite showroom from around the world.
Splendid and breathtaking room
You can admire rare minerals (a few dozen, over thousands) with amazing light properties.
By lighting them with a so-called “black” light, actually ultraviolet invisible to the naked eye, the minerals emit a color with magnificent vivid hues. This show is a pleasure for the eyes when young and old, enter the mystery of the dark room and discover hundreds of bright spots…
The Espace Granit association began by preserving and highlighting the ancient trades linked to the exploitation and industry of granite in the Vosges.
She collected and presents to the public the main part of the machines and materials having been used for the exploitation of granite in the Vosges : a reconstructed forge, sawing machines, Handling, a polishing workshop, a forge…
Workshops “clay”, “writing” and quizzes are offered all year round for the youngest, in family , for the groups and for them school from primary to high school . Cycles of conferences for those who want to know more about the subject.
