Schools, reforming school rhythms

Remarks from a committed mother (independent list of parents' representatives) concerning the law for the refoundation of the school and the reform of the school schedules :

I think that the refoundation of the school is necessary and that there is a lot to review in the functioning of educational establishments.

Measures have been implemented : Educational Territory Projects in each commune (PEDT) which set the modalities for adjusting school rhythms, also help ensure cohesion and continuity between school projects (educational institutions), local educational projects (communes) and educational projects of associations active in the extracurricular field. The objective of the PEDT is to open up school on its territory and to promote concerted action between all the players in the educational community and its partners (teachers, parents of students, local authorities, associations …). This is a good thing, seems to me.

Consultation time too short
The problem, is that this time of consultation (between teachers, parents, local authorities and the Minister of National Education) was too short, that the reform of school rates was applied too quickly in our municipalities, without real overall thinking and without real consultation. Added to this is the cost of applying the reform for municipalities that are not able to organize extracurricular time in good conditions ; which poses the key problem of the articulation between school and extracurricular times.
Race result : significant organizational problems for families, increased fatigue of many students, a general rejection of the reform by teachers and by families.

It was better before the reform !
What do we hear after school leaving the mouths of teachers and parents : "It was better before ! » (implied, before the reform). Because yes, it was better before.
I am not satisfied, like many parents of students, by the new school rhythms which have been imposed on children - and their families - since the last school year, on Floirac, commune on the right bank of Bordeaux.
These arrangements lead to an increase in extra-curricular reception time (paying) morning and evening. Monday, mardi, Thursday and Friday, back to school is now at 8:45 am (instead of 8:30 a.m. previously) and the lessons end at 4 p.m. (instead of 4.30 p.m.) : this forces many parents to place their children in the extracurricular reception in the evening and in the morning, which was not always the case before.

"It is the privileged circles that benefit the most"
Free extracurricular educational activities, proposed by the town hall, are limited to 1h15min, per student per week (from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Tuesday or Thursday), on registration, and within the limit of available places. Given the complexity of the registration system for these activities, lack of space and information, we see that it is children from the most advantaged backgrounds who benefit from it for the moment.
The lunch break lasts 2 hours (12h-14h), and no free extracurricular activity is offered in the early afternoon. What was however an option offered to the municipalities and would have allowed all the children to benefit from these activities during a time which is not deemed conducive to school learning.

Course of Wednesday during this reform in Floirac (Gironde)

Wednesday, the articulation between school time and extra-curricular time poses a big problem : school from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, then daycare (by town hall officers) until noon, then, a single bus picks up the children from all the schools in the municipality to bring them to the leisure center, taking meals very late (around 1:30 p.m.) at the leisure center, after pickup is complete. This causes a lot of fatigue in children who attend the center.

Kindergarten children suffer even more
Those responsible for extracurricular centers have told us that it is children attending kindergarten and attending the leisure center on Wednesday afternoons who suffer the most.. Some parents, who had family care solutions (grandparents for example) Wednesday, could no longer mobilize this type of guard because of compulsory school in the morning.

In short, many adjustments are necessary, which will take time (observation time, exchange time ...), money AND, openness, listening, of the agreement.
