Leïla Alaoui died

Young Franco-Moroccan photographer, Leïla Alaoui died at 33.

Following his operation due to the attack in Burkina Faso, this humanitarian artist and woman died from gunshot wounds.

She sat at the terrace of the Capuccino cafe which adjoins the Splendid hotel on Kwame Nkruma avenue, the main artery of Ouagadougou (it vaguely recalls another fact not so distant as that in another capital…), Leïla Alaoui had been shot five times during Friday's deadly attack 15 January 2016, which targeted the places most frequented by foreigners in the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou.

Following his injuries, she had undergone a major surgery that had lasted more than six hours and seemed safe. Unfortunately, his heart did not hold…

Aprized by cultural and media circles for its unique and touching work on plural identities, personal commitment to humanitarian causes, she had notably produced a series called Moroccans, on the tragic wandering of migrants, or on the ethnic and cultural diversity of Morocco.

In Burkina Faso at the request of Amnesty International, she had to make a photographic report there… She won't have had time.
