Vosges geology

Over time, tales and chronicles” , of Jean-Paul VON ELLER, 2009.

“It was difficult for me not to concoct some reflections after visiting the "Terrae Genesis" geological-mineralogical exhibition center in Saint-Amé (Vosges, Syndicate commune). We remain captivated by the splendor and a little disturbed by the accumulation of sparkling or polished treasures, from the smallest to the most majestic, from the most common to the most precious.

This invasion was coupled with internal ruminations, bearing as much on mineral species as on the most original lithological assemblages, wanted by the confines of our good old earth's crust where simmers, sometimes crap, simmer, sometimes imaginative and restless, even demonstrative. Bright colors, mat or shiny, amazing variety geometry, miraculous reaction in black light of crystalline or nippled objects and bodies. Small mineral samples with rounded shapes, and so soft to the touch by meticulous polishing, offered for sale to the public. Names ? My subject would be invaded by 1 500 terms of mineralogy and gemology. We will retain some of them in the context of this page..

From operation to finished product

How not to have a thought for all those who, from the beginning of the chain (exploitation or find) to the development (exhibition or goldsmith) were the players in this update of the treasures of our planet ! Gold diggers, farfouilleurs, illegal or not, mines producing gems in South Africa, à Madagascar, in India or Burma, in Central America among others : as many passionate people or eager for unexpected gains who have often made, to this task, the sacrifice of their lives.

Artistes, artisans, breeders, collectors : so many lovers of these mineral wonders anxious to provide them with jewels to the size of their brightness or to adorn the most affluent among their fellows ... Without forgetting here the trade and barter which are practiced in purses with gems and minerals, more and more numerous and of increasing notoriety.

Biblical allusions

Let us complement each other for a few moments in the evocation of certain astonishing biblical allusions by their convergence and by the science of gems which is attached to them., set out in a span of a millennium. See, in the Apocalypse of Saint John, last book of the New Testament the presentation of the new Jerusalem "by one of the seven angels" during chapter XXI, 2-18 : the city's eleven foundations will be adorned with precious stones : of jaspe, sapphire, from calcédoine, emerald, de sardonyx, sardoin, the béryl, topaz, de chrysoprase, hyacinth, amethyst. The twelve doors will be decorated with pearls, the town square will be covered with fine gold ! Where did the author get these learned words ?

No doubt he was inspired by the list, in chapter 28-7 from the prophet Ezekiel to 580 Before our era. In the lament of the king of Tire inspired by the Lord, we note : "You were in Eden, the garden of god, you were covered with all kinds of precious stones : sardoin, topaz, the diamond, de chrysolite, d’onyx, jasper, sapphire, d’escarboucle, of emerald and gold "...
If we go back to the time of Moses, during the Exodus, this "exit from Egypt" which he proceeded towards 1050 Before our era, Moses (XXVIII, 3-17) made recommendations to Aaron about his royal breastplate, said breastplate of the Judgment : "You will put four rows of precious stones in it, sardoine, topaz and emerald, scrabble, sapphire and diamond, opal, agate and amethyst, chrysolite, onyx and jasper ».

Biblical mystery and gems

But where did these buggers of first-rate biblical characters get their knowledge of gems ? Where did we find, apparently common, these precious stones, exotic for the Holy Land ? How did the goldsmiths work then ? For me, simple deadly, it remains a mystery. In the white, between red and green, did you notice in the center of the flag of India, this little mellow and bluish circle ? It’s a chakra *, a round object like the solar disk, attribute of the Hindu deity Vishnu – which can take human form then called avatar. Note that Hinduism is a religion dating from the second millennium BC !

Sept chakras

By simplifying a lot, note that we favor seven chakras symbolically activating seven psychic or vital centers aligned along the axis of the spine, inherent in the "ethereal" human body and supposed to stimulate : consciousness, wisdom, Spirituality (above the skull), – self-awareness, forgiveness (forehead level / optic chiasm), – Communication, creativity (throat / larynx), – courage, love (heart), Inner Peace, negative emotions (stomach / solar plexus), – sensuality, family, altruism (navel and sacred region), – sexuality, drive energy (pelvic region). Variants of these symbolic considerations, always seven in number and based on the four fundamental principles of the chakras (in short : 1. Belief in the reincarnation of the soul ; 2. Appearance – passion – desire ; 3. Ecstasy ; 4. Issuance), can be offered. Finally a multitude of other chakras are likely to intervene as much in our art of living as in our behavior towards others.

Mineral care

It is appropriate to point out here the role of crystals and gems which would resonate with the chakras, thus activating the improvement of our well-being, the manifestation of our emotions or our energy, the balance of our health at all. These properties have inspired for centuries, and so far, practitioners who call themselves “lithotherapists” (practice of medical care with mineral elements solid). We are not talking about pebbles or basalt mud applied as an accompaniment to certain thermal cures. This is the manipulation of a good hundred colored gems, rounded and polished, of mineral powders in suspension or in solution, used in application or tasting.

And this to alleviate various pains, to infuse energy and inner strength, to protect the subject from external threats, like a guardian angel. Quartz and its crystalline or colloidal derivatives play a privileged role in this area : which leads to certain clairvoyance practices like reading in the famous crystal ball ! Esotericism, pseudo-science or real paramedical practices ? Everyone can answer according to their own amount, his experience and… his beliefs. “
